COW DUNG CAKE

Cow Dung Cake is a traditional organic product prepared entirely by hand from the pure dung of indigenous Indian cow breeds such as Sahiwal, Gir, Khillari and Deoni, following methods that have been practised in Indian households and farming communities for generations. Fresh dung is collected and shaped into neat, round cakes with the help of simple hand-held moulds, which give each cake a consistent, well-formed round shape and a uniform size within its category. This use of a mould is a refinement of the traditional method, intended purely to maintain shape consistency and finish quality — the preparation itself remains fully manual, natural and free of any machinery, chemicals or synthetic binders. Once moulded, the cakes are left to dry naturally under the sun, after which they are inspected for quality and packed for despatch.
The finished cakes are firm, uniformly round, and light brown in colour, retaining the natural, unprocessed character valued in traditional Indian households, temples, wellness centres and Ayurveda practice. As they are handmade using natural materials only, minor variation in surface texture between individual pieces is normal and is a mark of authenticity rather than a defect.

Product Description

Cow Dung Cake is a traditional organic product prepared entirely by hand from the pure dung of indigenous Indian cow breeds such as Sahiwal, Gir, Khillari, and Deoni. The preparation follows methods practised in Indian households and farming communities for generations.

Fresh cow dung is collected and shaped into neat, round cakes using simple hand-held moulds. These moulds help maintain a consistent shape, uniform size, and improved finish within each product category. The moulding process is used only for shape consistency, while the complete preparation remains manual, natural, and free from machinery, chemicals, and synthetic binders.

Once moulded, the cakes are naturally dried under sunlight, inspected for quality, and packed for despatch. The finished cakes are firm, uniformly round, and light brown in colour, retaining the natural and unprocessed character valued in traditional Indian households, temples, wellness centres, and Ayurveda practices.

As the cakes are handmade using natural materials, minor variations in surface texture between individual pieces are normal and should be regarded as a mark of authenticity rather than a defect.

Raw Material – Indigenous Cow Breeds

The cow dung used in preparing these cakes is sourced from indigenous, or Desi, Indian cow breeds. These native breeds are traditionally valued in India and Ayurveda for the natural purity and quality of their dung compared with crossbred or exotic cattle.

The commonly associated indigenous breeds include:

  • Sahiwal
  • Gir
  • Khillari
  • Deoni

The raw material is sourced from healthy indigenous cows reared on local farms in Maharashtra and neighbouring regions. No artificial material, chemical binder, synthetic colour, or preservative is added during preparation.

How It Is Made – Production Process

Process Description
Collection Fresh cow dung is collected daily from healthy indigenous cows reared on local farms in the Kolhapur–Sangli region of Maharashtra.
Hand-Moulding The dung is shaped by hand using round moulds to form neat, uniformly finished cakes in the required size.
Sizing Cakes are prepared in four standard diameters: 4 inch, 6 inch, 8 inch, and 12 inch, according to customer requirements.
Sun Drying The moulded cakes are removed from the moulds and placed in an open, well-ventilated area to dry naturally under sunlight for approximately 2–4 days, depending on cake size and prevailing weather conditions.
Quality Check Each dried cake is visually inspected for shape, firmness, dryness, and overall finish. Cakes that do not meet the required quality standard are separated.
Packaging Approved cakes are packed according to client requirements, generally in quantities of 10 pieces, 20 pieces, or higher. Plastic wrapping is used for protection, together with a perforated or aerated outer box that allows continued natural air circulation.
Labelling & Despatch Each pack is labelled according to client requirements, including the product name, size, quantity, and batch details, before being prepared for despatch.
